What’s the purpose of this site?

To warn all of humanity about moronic technology, as well as moronic use of perfectly fine technology.

Ok, ok. Maybe not all of humanity, but at least the 3 people that somehow managed to end up here. You’re one of them, congrats!

Why?

I’ve had the idea for this site in April 2016, after having shitloads of trouble with the company medienrettung.de in Berlin, during which 300 of my hard-earned Euros went down the toilet. I’d like to make sure that others don’t make the same mistake.

Other than that, nothing is sacred here. I love bad-mouthing anything I consider moronic. This site is still very young, but there’s gonna be more venting & going ballistic here soon.

Top 10 of moronity

  Using as many technical terms as possible in sentences, without knowing their (correct) definitions. A classic. Certain types of managers love this shit. Phrases like "... the well-known 16-bit encoding UTF-8 ..." aren’t really suited to bolster my confidence in the speaker’s expertise. 16... 8... find the mistake! Supposedly there are even people who can’t count to 10 accident-free!

  HTTP caches & proxies! I hate you! All of you. Always doing whatever you want and never what we want.

  A Porsche that’s giving you augenkrebs.
  (Augenkrebs, which literally translated means ’cancer of the eye’, is a German word sometimes used for something so ugly that it’s hurting your eyes.)

  Using Unicode to drive database administrators crazy.
  (This one isn’t really moronic, actually it’s quite a lot of fun. Details will follow. Maybe a hint in advance: a single missing pıxel can cause chaos and mayhem! Ok, that’s a bit of an overstatement, but confusion all over the place is achievable.)

  (Of course the programming language, not the island. Details may follow. Or not. May take some time. Moronic technologies like garbage-collection may die of natural causes if we give it some time, right?)
